Madeline Salerno, LCSW,
Perinatal & Young Adult Therapist in Jersey City
Life can often feel outwardly stable while internally feeling uncertain, overwhelming, or emotionally noisy. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck in cycles of overthinking, self-doubt, perfectionism, or difficulty making decisions that feel aligned. Together, we slow things down and create space to better understand what is happening beneath the surface so you can move forward with more clarity and intention.
My Approach to Therapy
My work is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. I focus on helping you build insight into your emotional and behavioral patterns while also developing practical tools you can use in your daily life to feel more regulated, grounded, and confident.
Evidence-Based and Experiential Work
I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with mindfulness-based strategies, somatic awareness, and narrative approaches. This allows us to work both with present-day challenges and the deeper patterns that shape how you think, feel, and respond in relationships and life transitions.
A Collaborative and Supportive Space
Therapy with me is active and engaged. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and supported, while also being gently encouraged to notice patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and try new ways of responding. The goal is not just understanding yourself, but creating meaningful and lasting change in how you move through your life.
My Experience and Training
I have a particular interest and extensive training in supporting clients through anxiety, depression, social anxiety, codependency, perfectionism, self-esteem concerns, grief and loss, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. I am trained with the Postpartum International to work with clients navigating postpartum adjustment, infertility, adoption-related experiences, and the emotional complexities of motherhood and identity shifts.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how to move forward. In our work together, we focus on slowing things down, identifying patterns, and building tools that help you feel more grounded and in control. I balance warmth and support with directness, helping you both feel held and challenged in ways that support real change.
